Starting a farming business can be both a dream and a daunting venture. Whether you’re eyeing a few acres for organic produce or envision a pasture of livestock, turning that dream into a viable business often comes down to one major factor: access to capital and support. That’s where Minnwest Bank can help. Through our Bold Roots Farming Program, we offer customized programs designed to help beginning farmers establish and grow their operations through a program that gives you access to capital at preferential interest rates, extended loan terms, and minimal down payments.
In addition, Bold Roots Farming Program is uniquely positioned to offer personalized lending, local market expertise, and a relationship-first approach to new farm owners. The program provides a range of loan options tailored specifically for beginning farmers. These loans can help you:
- Purchase farmland: Get financing to buy your first farm or expand an existing one.
• Operational Support: Get funding for operating expenses such as purchasing seeds, livestock, equipment, or infrastructure development.
• Fixed asset loans: Get the funding you need to keep your operation running, including loans for machinery & equipment, livestock facilities and more.
As a community bank that is rooted in agriculture, Minnwest Bank offers financial tools and mentoring to individuals who are early in their farm ownership career. Bold Roots aligns with federal and state programs (from the USDA and FSA) but is offered through a community bank that understands the unique challenges of our local customers.
Relationship-based banking makes a complex process feel a lot more manageable, and Minnwest Bank operates with a deep understanding of local economies and agricultural challenges.
Who Qualifies?
Farmers who are eligible for the Bold Roots Farming Program must meet the following requirements:
- 10 years or less of experience operating a farm
- Substantial participation in managing and operating a farm
- Current land ownership limited to no more than 30% of the average farm size in your area at the time of your application.
- Must be able to demonstrate financial responsibility and the ability to repay loans, even if you lack traditional credit history.
Farming is more than a job but a major life commitment. Getting started requires financing, local knowledge, and a partner who believes in your vision. That’s what sets community banks apart.
